SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - North Dakota State freshman men's golfer
Jack Johnson has been named the Summit League Newcomer of the Year, as announced by the league office on Thursday, June 10. Johnson is the second NDSU golfer to earn the award in the last three seasons that it has been handed out. The award is voted on by the league coaches.
Johnson led the Bison and all league freshmen with a 73.9 stroke average during his first collegiate season. He had three rounds in the 60's including a season-best 67 (-3) in the closing round at the Joust at Goose Creek. He finished tied for 10th at that event and also had a top-five finish at the Maverick Invitational at The Creek. Johnson was also four-under with a 68 during the second round of the GolfWeek Spring Invitational.
His 212 at the GolfWeek Spring Invitational is the 16th-best 54-hole score in school history. His season stroke average of 73.94 is the 14th-lowest in a single-season in program history.
