NDSU Outdoor Track & Field Complex Renovation Underway

FARGO, N.D. – Construction is underway on the new North Dakota State University outdoor track & field complex for the championship-winning Bison program. The new facility will officially be named the Terrence Dahl and Donna Beres Track Complex.
The privately-funded $5 million renovation project will completed in two phases, remaining on the current site of the outdoor track on campus.
"We are incredibly grateful to Terry and Donna for their generous support of this project," said NDSU Director of Athletics, Matt Larsen. "This new facility will provide a high-level practice and competition space for both our track & field programs and will help them build upon the incredible success both programs have experienced this past decade."
All competition areas and surfaces will be new, including the eight-lane 400-meter track under the direction of Hellas Construction. The new track surface will be the Hellas EpiQ G4000 Full Pour system, and will include three dual-direction pole vault runways and two dual-direction horizontal jump runways.
Multiple competition areas for the shot put, discus, hammer, javelin and high jump will be located inside the oval, with jumps runways on the east side of the track.
"We are excited about the new outdoor track & field complex because of the tremendous positive impact it will have on our student-athletes," said NDSU director of track & field and cross country Stevie Keller. "The facility will be great not only for training, but also spectator-friendly for our home meets, with field event areas inside the oval to fully showcase our program."
"The outdoor complex, along with the Shelly Ellig Indoor Facility, will give NDSU one of the top track & field facility combinations in the whole region," said Keller. "I'm excited for our student-athletes to get championship-level experiences, and for our alumni, families, and supporters to watch us compete in Fargo for years to come."
The west side of the track will become the traditional home straightaway, running from north to south. A 25-foot by 13-foot Daktronics board for video and timing display will be featured on the south end of the complex.
The track surface and field event competition areas are all part of Phase 1, scheduled to be completed in Fall 2021.
Phase 2 of the project is the 3,500-seat grandstand on the west side of the track, facing east along the home straightaway. The new press box and timing system suite will sit atop the grandstand, with that phase's expected completion in Fall 2022.
The general contractor for the project is Veit & Company of Rogers, Minn., with Mutchler Bartram Architects of Fargo as the architect.
