NDSU Track & Field Announces Hire of Jeff Pflaumbaum as Throws Coach

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State University director of track & field and cross country Stevie Keller has announced the hire of Jeff Pflaumbaum as the program's assistant coach directing the throwing events.

Pflaumbaum carries 14 years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division I, Division III, and high school levels, including spending the last year working as a private throws coach.

Pflaumbaum was an assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania for four seasons from 2016-20, leading one of the most successful periods for a throws program in Ivy League history. He mentored 12 individual conference champions, six All-Americans, two Junior National champions, nine Top-10 all-time Ivy League marks, and numerous school records. The Penn women's program captured five team conference titles during his tenure.

Pflaumbaum was named the Mid-Atlantic Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2018 outdoor season. He has developed NCAA All-Americans in the discus, javelin, hammer throw and weight throw, as well as coaching conference champions and NCAA East Prelims qualifiers in every throwing event. Most recently, Pflaumbaum coached Marc Minichello to a fourth-place finish in the men's javelin at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

"We are excited to welcome Jeff and his wife, Lisa, to our Bison family. Jeff is bringing great knowledge and experience to not only the Bison throws, but also the entire track & field program," said Keller. "I look forward to Jeff continuing the success of our highly regarded throws program and building his own legacy with the Bison."

He was an assistant coach at Lehigh University from 2013-16, directing the throws and multi-events throws while serving as the recruiting coordinator. Pflaumbaum also had stints at Swarthmore College (2013) and Temple University (2011-12).

"I'd like to thank Coach Keller and the track & field staff for this great opportunity," Pflaumbaum said. "I'm honored and excited to continue building upon the elite level success Coach St. Clair forged at NDSU. Go Bison!"

As a thrower at North Carolina State, Pflaumbaum was an All-ACC performer in the discus and an NCAA Championships provisional qualifier in the weight throw. Following his collegiate career, he earned four sub-masters All-America accolades in the shot put.

Pflaumbaum holds a Bachelor of Arts in humanities from NC State with a classical Greek minor, as well as a Bachelor of Music degree in contemporary writing and composition from the Berklee College of Music. He owns USATF Level 1 and Level 2 – Throws certifications and a USTFCCCA 310 strength & conditioning certification.
