Bison Wrestling Falls at Northern Iowa in Big 12 Play

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa. – The North Dakota State wrestling team fell to the University of Northern Iowa 29-13 Saturday night in Big 12 play at West Gym.

The Bison (6-2, 1-2 Big 12) dropped the first four matches overall to Northern Iowa (3-5, 2-2 Big 12) and were unable to recover despite strong performances from Jared Franek, Owen Pentz and Brandon Metz.

No. 7 Franek picked up the first Bison win of the night as he claimed his 11^th straight victory at 157 pounds and improved to 16-1 on the year with a 12-4 major decision victory over Derek Holschlag.

No. 23 Pentz scored max points in his 197 match against Noah Glaser. Pentz was dominating with a 10-0 lead in the second period before Glaser was forced to retire due to injury, as Pentz picked up six points for the second-straight week.

No. 21 Metz closed out the night in the heavyweight class with a 3-2 victory over Tyrell Gordon. Metz had a takedown in the first period that proved to be the difference maker in a battle.

No. 14 Luke Weber and #23 Austin Brenner both finished with tight defeats as the duo lost decisions by two points each. Weber fell to No. 19 Austin Yant 8-6 in the 165 match, while Brenner fell 5-3 to Lance Runyon in the 174 match.

The Bison will be back in action on Sunday, as NDSU heads to Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State. The dual is slated for a 2 p.m. start at the Hilton Coliseum.
