FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State volleyball team topped Kansas City, 3-0, on Saturday morning at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
With the win, the Bison (12-5, 5-0 Summit) are off to their first 5-0 start in Summit League play since 2010 and extended their five-match win streak.
Ali Hinze paced NDSU with a match-high 13 kills to go along with four digs and three service aces.
Kelley Johnson notched a double-double with a match-best 40 assists and 10 digs, while
Syra Tanchin added 12 kills and seven digs.
NDSU and Kansas City (4-13, 1-3 Summit) battled through the first set that featured a match-high 20 tie scores and five lead changes. The Roos grabbed a late, 25-24, edge following a kill from Kimora Whetstone. Tanchin responded with a clutch kill for her own for NDSU to lock the frame, 25-25. The Bison then closed the set with a momentum-shifting 4-2 run to win the frame, 29-27, after an ace from Tanchin.
NDSU began the second set putting together six unanswered points to open up a 12-5 edge following a bad set. The Bison then pushed their advantage up to 18-10 following a kill from
Allison Scheiwiller. NDSU went on to close out the set, 25-17.
The Bison started fast in the third set assembling a 4-0 run to steal a 9-6 lead after back-to-back kills from
Michelle Glover. NDSU then stretched their edge up to seven, 19-12, following a kill from Scheiwiller. The Bison didn't look back from there and won the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-0.
NDSU will be back in action hosting North Dakota on Saturday. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse
