NDSU Volleyball Drops 3-2 Decision Against North Dakota

FARGO, N.D. – Syra Tanchin reached the 1,000 career kills mark as the North Dakota State volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to North Dakota on Saturday night in front of 1,308 fans at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
Tanchin paced the Bison (12-6, 5-1 Summit) with a match-high 23 kills to increase her career total to 1,014 over four seasons. She ranks 25th on the all-time kills list and is one of eight players to reach the mark in the NDSU Division I era. Tanchin also added 10 digs and one service ace to her stat line.
Kelley Johnson logged her 12th double-double of the season with a match-high 54 assists and 14 digs. Michelle Glover contributed 16 kills with a .519 hitting percentage and team-high six blocks. Logan O'Brien rounded out the top performers with a match-high 17 digs.
After both teams traded the first two sets, the Bison pushed back in the third stanza doubling up the Fighting Hawks (8-9, 5-1 Summit), 10-5, following an attack error. NDSU then put together five straight points to increase its edge to 24-17 after back-to-back kills from Tanchin. The Bison went on to win the set, 25-20.
North Dakota retaliated in the fourth frame sprinting out to a 7-2 edge. The Bison pulled their way back stealing a late 21-19 advantage after three unanswered points. However, the Fighting Hawks finished the frame on a 6-2 run to win the set, 25-23.
Both teams exchanged points in the fifth frame the featured six ties and five lead changes until the Bison grabbed a late 11-10 edge following two straight kills from Tanchin. North Dakota responded with five unanswered points to win the set, 15-11, and the match, 3-2.
NDSU will be in action at Denver on Thursday night. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. CT
