FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State volleyball team rolled past Western Illinois, 3-0, on Thursday night at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
The Bison (14-7, 7-2 Summit) registered a .315 hitting percentage as a team and also limited Western Illinois (4-18, 0-10 Summit) to a -.033 hitting percentage.
Ali Hinze led the way for NDSU with a match-best 18 kills and season-high six blocks.
Kelley Johnson handed out a match-best 30 assists, while
Syra Tanchin contributed a match-high 12 digs with nine kills.
NDSU started fast assembling seven unanswered points to open up an 11-2 advantage in the first set. The Bison continued to surge stretching their lead up to 20-7 following another 5-0 run. NDSU registered a match-best .409 hitting percentage in the frame and went on to win the set, 25-10.
After both teams traded points early in the second set, NDSU rattled off a 7-0 run capped off by an ace from
Taylor Quan to make the score 11-4. NDSU then pushed its edge into double digits, 15-5, after Tanchin delivered a kill. The Bison won the second set, 25-11.
Western Illinois battled back in the third frame that saw six tie scores and three lead changes to lock the score, 13-13. NDSU then erupted with eight straight points to open up a 21-13 lead after Quan connected on her career-high fourth ace. The Bison closed out the set, 25-15, and the match, 3-0.
NDSU will be back in action hosting St. Thomas on Saturday. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
