Nate Adams, NDSU Men’s Golf Complete Wire-to-Wire Sweep of ODU/OBX Intercollegiate

POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The North Dakota State men's golf team and golfer Nate Adams completed wire-to-wire sweeps of the 2022 ODU/OBX Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the Kilmarlic Golf Club.

The Bison shot 278 as a team for the second-straight day to finish at -14 and win by seven strokes over SIU Edwardsville, while Adams fired an even par round of 71 to finish with a three-day total of -10 to win medalist honors by three shots over Drexel's Drue Nicholas.

The victory for the Bison is their third of the season, as they close out the fall semester with top-five finishes in all six events, including five top-three finishes.

The three victories in a season are tied for the third most in program history and second most in the Division I era, having just reached the halfway point heading into the winter break. The Bison won four times in 2021-22. The seven victories for NDSU in two seasons are already the most in any two-year span in NDSU history.

For Adams, it is his first career medalist honor after entering the weekend with five career top-five finishes and eight career top-10 finishes. Adams opened up with a birdie on one and had 16 pars in his round, with just a bogey on 13 as his only blemish.

The first and second round scores of 66 for Adams matched his collegiate best, done in both his sophomore and junior seasons. The senior's win percentage sores to over 87 percent this season and his scoring average falls to 71.3.

Ian Simonich led the way for the Bison on Tuesday, as the sophomore fired a -3 round of 68 to climb up the leaderboard and finish in a tie for eighth. Simonich had six birdies in his round, including three on the final three holes as he jumped up the leaderboard and claimed his fifth top-10 finish of the season. Simonich will close out the fall with a 92 percent winning percentage to lead the Bison.

Brock Winter also finished in the 60s in the third and final round, as he shot his second straight -2 round of 69. Winter finished in a tie for 14th overall at +2.

Gavin Cronkhite wrapped up the scoring for the Bison in the final round as he followed up even par rounds on the first two days with a -1 round of 70 to close out his fall semester. Cronkhite finished in seventh at -1.

Nate Deziel rounded out the tournament for the Bison with his third straight +1 round of 72. Deziel finished the tournament at +3 in a tie for 16th overall in the 83-golfer field, giving all five Bison a finish in the top 20 percent of the field.

The Bison were the only team in the 16-team field to fire under par rounds in all three rounds, as they shot par scores of -2, -6 and -6. They finish the fall semester with a combined score of -46, averaging nearly 3-under-par per round.

The Bison will be off for the remainder of the fall semester before picking back up in the early spring with the William & Mary hosted The Savannah Intercollegiate on February 18 and 19. The event will be at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Georgia.
