NDSU Volleyball Tops South Dakota on the Road, 3-1

FARGO, N.D. –  The North Dakota State volleyball team rolled past South Dakota, 3-1, on the road on Thursday night.

With the win, the Bison improve to 20-9 (13-4 Summit) on the season and snapped the Coyotes (26-3, 15-2 Summit) 13-match win streak.

Syra Tanchin paced the Bison with a match-high 22 kills to go along with 12 digs and a .375 hitting percentage. Ali Hinze also reached double figures in kills with 16 to go along with 11 digs, while Kelley Johnson handed out a team-high 46 assists with 11 digs.

Both teams exchanged points in the opening frame until the Bison put together a 3-0 run to steal a 20-19 edge after a kill from Tanchin. The Coyotes answered back with a 4-2 run of their own to capture a 23-22 lead. NDSU then closed the frame with three straight points to win the set, 25-23, following a block from Johnson and Michelle Artis.

NDSU carried the energy over into the second frame sprinting out to a 10-4 lead after a kill from Johnson. The Bison then stretched their edge up to nine, 19-10, following a kill from Boling. NDSU went on to win the second set, 25-17.

South Dakota responded in the fourth frame building a 15-5 lead by the midway point. NDSU attempted to get a rally going trimming the deficit down to eight, 20-12, after a kill from Hinze. However, the Coyotes closed out the frame, 25-13.

Both teams traded points to lock the fourth set, 10-10, before NDSU went on a 4-0 run to steal a 14-10 edge after a ball handling error. NDSU then increased its lead to 21-17 following a kill from Hinze. The Bison held off the Coyotes the rest of the way to win the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-1.

NDSU will wrap up regular season play at South Dakota State on Saturday. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
