Hopkins Powers NDSU Past St. Thomas, 69-60

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's basketball team grinded out a 69-60 win over St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon at Scheels Center.
Reneya Hopkins notched her second straight and fifth double digit scoring game of the season with a career-best 18 points. She shot 5-of-5 from the free throw line and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc to go along with a team-best two steals. Ryan Cobbins contributed 15 points, while Emily Dietz added in 12 points and four rebounds. Heaven Hamling rounded out the top performers with 12 points, seven rebounds and a game-high five assists.
NDSU (10-15, 6-9 Summit) shot 44.0 percent (22-50) from the field and 81.0 percent (17-21) from the free throw line. The Bison netted 26 points in the paint and the bench also tallied 26 points.
After a back and forth first half, NDSU came out in the third quarter opening up its largest lead of the day, 50-38, following a triple from Sophie Olson at the 4:11 mark. The Tommies (6-17, 3-10 Summit) battled their way back in the fourth quarter locking the contest, 58-58, with 2:55 to play. NDSU responded with seven unanswered points, including four from Hopkins to steal a 65-58 edge with 35 seconds to play. Following a St. Thomas layup, the Bison closed out the game connecting on all four free throw attempts to seal the 69-60 win.
NDSU returns to action at Oral Roberts (12-11, 7-5 Summit) on Thursday night. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
