MARANA, Ariz. – The North Dakota State men's golf team picked up its second tournament win of the season on Tuesday as the Bison held on to a day one lead to win the Dove Mountain Intercollegiate hosted at the Saguero-Tortolita course at the Golf Club at Dove Mountain.
The Bison won the team competition by seven shots over tournament host Valparaiso and placed all five scoring golfers and two individuals in the top 20.
It's the first win for the Bison since they tied Drake for top honors in late September at the Zach Johnson Invitational. The Bison have now won two events in each of the last two seasons.
Nate Deziel, who started the day in a tie for fifth, closed the final round with a 78 on the tight and challenging 7291-yard, par 72 course and finished sixth overall in the 41-golfer field. Deziel led the scoring golfers for the Bison with four birdies on the afternoon.
Jack Johnson climbed three spots in the final round to finish seventh overall after carding a pair of birdies on his way to a 75 on the day, the best scoring round for the Bison.
Brock Winter and Ian Simonich kept pace with Deziel and held top 15 places on Tuesday as both golfers fired rounds of 78. Winter finished 10th overall, while Simonich finished 14th.
Nate Adams rounded out the team golfers for the Bison with a 17th overall, and he was joined by Bison individuals Gavin Cronkhite and Josh Galvin in a tie for the spot. Cronkhite's 74 was the best round of the day for NDSU, while Galvin shot a 75 to match Johnson.
North Dakota State will return to action on March 14-15 at the GCU Invitational hosted by Grand Canyon at the GCU Golf Course in Phoenix, Arizona.
