Winter Leads NDSU as Bison Set Record with Big Win at Stampede at the Creek

ELKHORN, Neb. – The North Dakota State men's golf team set multiple records on Tuesday as the Bison cruised to a runaway victory at The Stampede at the Creek.

After yesterday's team single round record of -14, the Bison clinched the largest victory in program history, winning by 31 shots at the Indian Creek Golf Course as NDSU finished at -19, while second place was St. Thomas, who finished at +12.

The previous record win was 17 shots by the Bison in 1995 as NDSU defeated a 13-team field at the Erv Kaiser Invitational. The previous Division I era record was 15 shots in 2012 as the Bison won the Navy Fall Classic in a 15-team field.

The Bison also picked up their fifth event victory of the season, which sets a new program record, breaking the four event victories in the 1990-91 season.

On top of multiple records, the Bison swept the top spots on the individual leaderboard as well, as Brock Winter led a 1-2-3 finish for NDSU. After Winter's 65 in the second round, the Stillwater, Minnesota native shot a -2 round of 70 on Tuesday to climb one spot up the leaderboard and pick up a three-shot victory after a three-day total of 209 to finish at -7.

The victory for Winter is the first of his career. Winter's -7 is the second-best best tournament score of the season for NDSU, one shot behind Nate Deziel's -8 at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invite in February.

Finishing second in the 54-golfier field and three shots behind Winter was fellow sophomore Jack Johnson, who carded a 73 on Tuesday to finish the tournament at -4. Nate Adams was one shot behind Johnson and claimed third after shooting an even par third round of 72 to finish at -3 for the tournament.

Josh Galvin rounded out the scoring for the Bison on Tuesday, as Galvin finished the day at 73 to drop one shot at finish at +1 for the tournament in eighth place. Deziel shot 75 in the final round to finish in a tie for 13th at +4, while Ian Simonich closed out the tournament for NDSU in 20th as he finished at +6 after shooting a 79 on the final day.

With the victory, the Bison will head into the Summit League Championship with two victories and three top-three finishes in the last four tournaments. The Summit League Championship is slated to begin on May 1 at the Sand Creek Station Golf Club in Newton, Kansas.
