LONG BEACH, Calif. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team spread athletes across three meets on Thursday, competing at Long Beach State, Azusa Pacific University, and the Mt. SAC Relays in southern California.

NDSU senior
Trevor Otterdahl was the top collegian in the hammer throw at Long Beach State, throwing a career-best 216-3 (65.91m). He ranks 22nd in the NCAA this season and fifth-best in school history.

Sophomore
Payton Smith (Carrington, N.D.) won his section of the 3,000m steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays, running a personal-best 9:04.42 to rank ninth in school history.

Hunter Merkley posted the best long jump mark of his college career, taking third place at Long Beach with a jump of 23-08.25 (7.22m).
Matt Kraft threw a personal-best 204-2 (62.24m) to place third in the javelin.

Jens Christensen matched his outdoor PR in the pole vault, clearing 15-07.25 (4.76m).

At the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, junior
Beau Brannan ran a season-best 1:53.71 in the 800m.
Eric VanErp registered a personal-best decathlon score of 6,399 points.

Kaden Pastian was the top Bison in the discus at Long Beach State, throwing 177-3 (54.03m) for 10th place.
Levi Rockey came within three inches of his hammer throw PR, throwing 185-7 (56.58m) for the top mark in his section.
