BARK RIVER, Mich. – The North Dakota State men's golf team wrapped up the opening tournament of the season on Monday, holding onto a 5
th place finish in a 13-team field at the Island Resort Intercollegiate at the Sage Run Golf Club.
Nate Adams led the way for the Bison on Monday, as he fired a -4 round of 68 to climb into a tie for seventh overall as he finished at -4 for the event. Adams finished the day with five birdies and just one bogey. He climbed several spots over the final two holes, as he birdied both to end the tournament.
Gavin Cronkhite had the second-best round of the day for the Bison, as he shot a 1-over-par round of 73. Cronkhite moved up nine places on the day and finished in a tie for 40
th overall, along with teammate
Josh Galvin, in the 81-golfer field.
Galvin, along with
Ian Simonich, wrapped up the scoring on the day for the Bison, as both finished with rounds of 75. Galvin finished the tournament with a +8, while Simonich finished in a tie for 16
th overall at +1.
The Bison held onto their fifth-place starting spot to begin the day, shooting +3 in the final round and +5 overall for the three-round event. NDSU finished five shots behind Kentucky for fourth.
Nate Deziel would shoot a 77 on Monday and finish at +9 in a tie for 45
th.
Jack Johnson, who was golfing as an individual, finished in a tie for 23
rd at +3 for the tournament. He closed out his tournament with his third-consecutive +1 round of 73.
North Dakota State will be back in action on Tuesday and Wednesday, as the Bison jump right into the NDSU Fall Invitational at the Oxbow Country Club. The Bison are set to tee off at 1:10 p.m. with the first round on Tuesday. The second and final round will be played Wednesday morning.
