OXBOW, N.D. –
Ian Simonich and
Nate Deziel tied for medalist honors to lead the way for North Dakota State men's golf, as the Bison claimed the NDSU Fall Invitational tournament victory following another record-setting day on the Oxbow Country Club golf course.
Simonich, who started the day in second, fired his second-straight -3 round of 69 to catch Deziel and join him at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the second round. With no playoff, the duo finish tied for medalist honors. Deziel had a second round of 74 after opening with an NDSU record 64 on Tuesday.
The Bison also claimed the team title, as they pulled away from St. Thomas by 12 more shots on day two, finishing the event at -19. The Bison picked up a 31-stroke win, which tied another NDSU record for the largest victory in program history. The win matched a 31-stroke victory over three rounds last season at The Stampede at the Creek, which was also over St. Thomas with scores of -19 and +12.
NDSU finished with a -3 round of 285 on a windy second day.
Nate Adams (69) and
Gavin Cronkhite (73) wrapped up the scoring for the Bison on day two. Cronkhite finished fourth overall with a two-day total of 142 to finish at -2. Adams finished in a tie for fifth overall at even par.
Brock Winter, who played as an individual, matched Simonich and Adams with the best round on the course on Wednesday with his -3 score of 69. Winter moved up three spots on the leaderboard to finish in third overall at -4 for the event.
North Dakota State will be back in action with their third tournament in just over a week on Monday and Tuesday, as the Bison head to Manhattan, Kansas for the Kansas State Wildcat Invitational at the Colbert Hills Golf Course. The Bison took fifth overall in a 13-team field last season at the same event.
