NORMAN, Okla. – North Dakota State wrestling fell to No. 20 Oklahoma 29-7 Sunday afternoon at the McCasland Field House to open up Big 12 play.

The Bison picked up a pair of victories in the dual, including a big upset statement from true freshman Adam Cherne in the 184-pound match. Cherne, who made his dual debut for the Bison, upset #19 Giuseppe Hoose, winning in dominating fashion with an 18-6 major decision.

Cherne scored a takedown in the opening seconds of the match and then added another takedown just before the end of the first period for a 6-1 lead. After Cherne chose a neutral start to begin the second, he scored another takedown, putting Hoose on his back straightaway to score a four-point nearfall, going up 13-1. Cherne would then add another takedown later in the second period. Cherne would add an escape and a riding time point to cap his scoring in the match.

Landen Johnson would give the Bison their first victory of the dual, just before the break, as he defeated Jared Hill by a 7-3 decision. After giving up an early takedown, Johnson closed the second period with a takedown and four-point nearfall, as time expired before he could secure a pin with Hill on his back. Johnson then rode Hill for the entire third period to secure the victory.

In the 125-pound match, Carlos Negrete Jr. gave up a pair of penalty points in a 3-1 loss to Conrad Hendriksen, with both wrestlers scoring only an escape on the mat. Ryan Henningson would then fall in the 133-pound match to #26 Jace Kelzer, giving up a pair of takedowns in an 8-2 decision.

Gavin Drexler would score a couple takedowns in his battle with #9 Mosha Schwartz, but ultimately fell to the top-10 wrestler in the 141-pound match by a 16-7 major decision. Max Petersen then dropped the 149-pound match in a close battle with #17 Willie McDougald, falling by a 7-5 decision.

After the break, Brendan Howes fell to #15 Cael Carlson in the 165-pound match and Gaven Sax fell to #13 Tate Picklo in the 184-pound match, both by major decision.
