LINCOLN, Neb. – The North Dakota State men's golf team battled through extremely windy conditions to sit mid pack after the opening round of the Summit League Championships at the Wilderness Ridge Country Club.
 
The Bison battled windy conditions of 30-35 mph winds with gusts over 45 on Sunday, shooting a round of +24 to sit in fifth overall out of 10 teams. Kansas City shot a +17 and leads the overall, with Denver (+20), St. Thomas (+21) and Oral Roberts (+22) ahead of NDSU.
 
Nate Deziel, the defending Summit League champion, led the way for the Bison on day one, firing a 75 to sit in a tie for sixth overall. Deziel had a birdie on the seventh and an eagle on the par-4 10^th hole to highlight his round. His eagle was the only one of the day in the tournament field.
 
One shot back on day one was Nate Adams, who shot a 76 to sit in a tie for 11^th overall in the 50-golfer field. Adams led the Bison with four of the teams eight birdies on the day. Adams had a birdie on the first, and finished the round with three pars and two birdies to move back up the leaderboard.
 
Ian Simonich shot third for NDSU in the first round. Simonich was one of the early leaders after six pars and a birdie on fifth hole to sit at -1 through seven, but finished with a 78. Simonich sits in a tie for 20^th overall.
 
Brock Winter wrapped up the scoring rounds for NDSU on Sunday, finishing with a 79. Winter had two birdies in the round and sits in a tie for 29^th. Gavin Cronkhite wrapped up the day for NDSU with an 84 to sit in 48^th.
 
The Bison will return to action on Monday with the second round of the Summit League Championships. NDSU will begin the day on the 10^th hole, teeing off beginning at 8:30 a.m.
