FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team picked up a 5-2 win over South Dakota State on Friday night at Newman Outdoor field.
With the win, the Bison (21-28, 15-7 Summit) reached the 15-win mark in Summit League play for the third straight season and seventh time in program history since joining the conference in 2008. NDSU also secured the second seed in the Summit League Tournament next week.
The Bison pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts as a group.
Tristen Roehrich made the start tossing six strikeouts with no runs over 3.0 innings.
Nolan Johnson (3-2) earned the win throwing a career-best six strikeouts with no runs over 3.0 innings.
Shea Zetterman also added one strikeout over 2.0 frames of relief.
NDSU connected on nine hits with six different players contributing at least one.
James Dunlap went 2-of-4 at the plate with two RBI.
Dunlap provided a spark in the opening frame with an RBI double into right field to make the score 1-0.
Cadyn Schwabe kept the fast start going into the second inning with an RBI single to stretch the lead to 2-0.
Peter Brookshaw capped the frame with an RBI single before Schwabe scored on a throwing error to increase the edge to 4-0.
The contest then went scoreless for five frames until Dunlap once against delivered an RBI double into right field to push the lead to 5-0. The Jackrabbits (22-25, 13-10 Summit) attempted to rally in the ninth scoring a pair of runs on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly to pull back within three, 5-2. However, NDSU went on to hold off South Dakota State the rest of the way to earn the 5-2 victory.
NDSU will wrap up regular season play against South Dakota State tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m., at Newman Outdoor Field.
