SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State softball senior
Carley Goetschius and junior
Emilee Buringa were named to the 2023 Summit League Softball Academic All-League Team, announced the league office Wednesday.
Buringa becomes a repeat winner of the award, as she also won it last season, while Goetschius was named to the team for the first time.
Buringa, who earned First Team All-Summit League honors this season after starting every game in centerfield for NDSU, holds a 4.0 GPA in Education. The St. Charles, Minn. native was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in May. The junior finished the season with a .277 batting average, four home runs, 19 RBIs, 36 runs, a team high 20 walks and a .397 on base percentage.
Goetschius, who also earned First Team All-Summit League honors this season and also started all 51 games, holds a 3.77 GPA in Business. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. The senior finished the season with a team high .364 batting average, seven home runs, 35 RBIs, team high 39 runs, 11 walks and a team high .405 on base percentage.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions, except pitchers who must have participated in 20 percent of their team's total contests.
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's participating members, and voting is conducted by both SIDs and FARs. The teams are made up of ten student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
