Payton Otterdahl Takes 5th in Shot Put at World Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Former North Dakota State NCAA champion thrower Payton Otterdahl earned his highest finish yet at a global championship meet, placing fifth in the shot put at the World Athletics Championships on Saturday.
Otterdahl registered a throw of 71-08.75 (21.86m) to take fifth place. American Ryan Crouser – the shot put world record holder and reigning world champion – defended his crown with a mark of 77-01.75 (23.51m).
Otterdahl stands at No. 4 in the latest edition of the world rankings for the shot put.
Otterdahl finished 10th in the shot put at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021. He competed for NDSU from 2015-19, setting the collegiate indoor shot put record and winning NCAA indoor titles in the shot put and weight throw in 2019.
