DES MOINES, Iowa – The North Dakota State soccer team fell to Drake University, 2-0, in non-conference action on Sunday, Aug. 27, at Drake Stadium.
The Bulldogs (3-1-0) took an early lead in the sixth minute after being awarded a penalty kick. Emma Nagel slotted the penalty into the lower left corner.
Jess Hanley nearly had the answer for the Bison (1-2-1) in the ninth minute, as her header off of a Devon Kavanagh corner beat the keeper Addie Ford, but was cleared off the line by a Drake defender.
Drake would double its advantage in the 56th minute, as Layla Kelbel would connect on a Madelyn Smith corner from close range for the final goal.
The Bison, who doubled up Drake in shots in the first half, had just one shot in the second half and were outnumbered 8-5 in shots for the game. Sunday's loss is the first time the Bison have been held scoreless this season. NDSU goalkeeper Abby Wilkinson finished with three saves, all in the second half.
North Dakota State are set to continue a three-game road swing with a trip to South Carolina. The Bison take on Coastal Carolina in Conway on Thursday, Aug. 31. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
