FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State soccer opened up Summit League play with a 1-1 tie against Kansas City on Thursday night at Dacotah Field.
Kelsey Kallio put the Bison (4-3-3, 0-0-1 Summit League) in front in the 31st minute, as she scored her first goal of the season with a header off of a corner. Madelyn Grate sent a corner in to the near post and Kallio head the shot just inside the left post.
Olivia Watson would nearly double the lead in one of the best remaining chances for the Bison later in the first half, as NDSU had the first seven shots of the game.
However, Kansas City (1-3-6, 0-0-1 Summit League) would take five of the last six shots in the half and then responded immediately in the second half, as Gigi Mir equalized in the 48th minute. Lily Stedman sent a ball across the box and Mir knocked in the ball from close range into the upper left.
The Bison would generate a majority of the offense in the remainder of the contest, leading shots 18-11, but NDSU had just five shots on goal. NDSU Goalkeeper Abby Wilkinson finished with one save in the match. Kansas City's Riley Moore had four saves.
The Bison will remain in Summit League play at Dacotah Field, hosting Omaha on Sunday, Sept. 24. The game will be streamed live on the Summit League Network.
