STILLWATER, Minn. – North Dakota State men's golf claimed their first team title of the season on Tuesday as they fired a final round 298 to finish at +14 with a seven-shot win over host St. Thomas (+21) at the StoneRidge Golf Club. Ian Simonich also claimed individual medalist honors with a two-shot victory.
 
Northern Iowa (+27) took third overall with South Dakota (+28) and Omaha (+33) rounding out the top five in the 8-team field.
 
After a 72 and 71 on the opening 36 holes on Monday, Simonich fired another even par 72 on Tuesday to finish as the only golfer under par in the event at -1. Simonich had three birdies in the final round to lead the way.
 
Entering the 54^th and final hole tied with Northern Iowa's Connor VanWeelden, Simonich posted a par, while VanWeelden finished with a double bogey to give Simonich his first win of the season and the second of his career.
 
Rylin Petry finished in a tie for sixth overall in the event, closing the three-round event with a 76. He finished with one birdie in the final round to finish at +4 and remain in sixth overall, where he started the day.
 
Josh Galvin climbed the leaderboard up to tenth with a final round 73. Galvin had two birdies and an eagle on the 17^th to highlight his round and climb nine spots up the leaderboard, finishing at +6.
 
Jake Skarperud fired a 77 in the final round, with one birdie on the day to close at +8. Skarperud dropped seven places to finish 17^th overall. Sean Moore had three final round birdies as he carded a 76. Moore finished in a tie for 37^th at +15.
 
NDSU individuals Carter Spalding and Beck Erholtz took 33^rd and 61^st respectively in the 62-golfer field. Spalding shot a 77 in the final round to finish at +14, while Erholtz fired an 81 to finish at +32.
 
The Bison will be back in action next week as they travel to Homer, Nebraska for the South Dakota hosted Throw Down "Up Top" October 7-9. The event will take place at Landmand Golf Club.
