STOCKTON, Calif. – The North Dakota State baseball team picked up a 9-7 win over Pacific on Saturday afternoon at Klein Family Field.
After both teams found themselves locked, 1-1, after opening inning,
Carson Hake sparked the Bison with his first career home run to make the score 2-1 in the second. Pacific (2-4) responded in the bottom half tie the contest, 2-2, following a ground out off the bat of Jack Metcho.
The Bison (1-5) pushed back after
James Dunlap scored following a throwing error and
Davis Hamilton connected on a single into right to regain the lead, 4-2, in the third frame. NDSU continued to apply pressure into the fourth after
Luis Garcia and
Will Busch each scored on a wild pitch before
Sam Canton used an RBI sacrifice fly to extend the edge to 7-2.
The Bison tacked on insurance runs in the sixth following an RBI double off the bat of Canton and another RBI double from Hamilton to make the score 9-2. Pacific attempted to rally plating two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth, but NDSU held on to secure the 9-7 victory.
The Bison tallied 12 hits as a team with
Jack Steil going 3-of-3 at the plate with one run and one RBI. Canton also contributed a game-high three RBI with two runs and one hit.
Logan Knight made the start on the mound tossing five strikeouts over 4.0 innings.
Leland Wilson (1-0) earned his first career win with one strikeout over 2.0 innings.
NDSU will conclude its series against Pacific tomorrow. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. CT
