STOCKTON, Calif. – The North Dakota State baseball team topped Pacific, 6-4, and won the series on Sunday afternoon at Klein Family Field.
After both teams worked through three scoreless innings to begin the contest, Pacific (2-5) took advantage of a fielding error to make the score 1-0 in the fourth.
Jake Schaffner answered for the Bison (2-5) in the fifth getting home on a throwing error to lock the game, 1-1.
James Dunlap then sparked NDSU with a two-run home run to grab the lead, 3-1.
Colten Becker followed it up in the next at-bat with his first home run of the season to stretch the edge to 4-1.
Pacific fought its way back plating one run in each of the next three innings to lock the contest, 4-4, after Andrew Sloan used an RBI ground out in the seventh frame. Schaffner once again answered for the Bison with a two RBI single in the eighth to regain the lead, 6-4. NDSU went on to close out the final inning to secure its second straight win, 6-4.
The Bison totaled 10 hits as a team with seven different players contributing at least one. Schaffner paced NDSU going 3-of-4 at the plate with two RBI and one run. Dunlap also tallied two hits, two RBI and one run.
Landon Koenig made the start on the hill posting four strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
Hunter Rosenbaum (1-0) picked up his first career win after making an appearance for one inning and
Austin Bergum earned his first career save finishing the final 2.0 frames with one strikeout and no runs.
The Bison are back in action at No. 7 Oregon State on Thursday night. First pitch is set for 7:35 p.m. CT
