BATON ROUGE, La. - No. 2-ranked defending national champion LSU defeated North Dakota State 6-1 in non-conference baseball Tuesday, March 12, before a crowd of 9,909 at Alex Box Stadium.
North Dakota State (3-12) opened the scoring in the first inning when
Cadyn Schwabe led off with an infield single and scored on
James Dunlap's double down the left field line.
LSU (15-2) tied the game in the second inning on Michael Braswell's sacrifice fly and went ahead when Brady Neal scored from third before NDSU threw out Alex Milazzo leaving from first.
Neal finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored as the Tigers expanded the lead with single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings.
Schwabe finished 2-for-4Â and
Carson Hake and
Jake Schaffner added hits for the Bison. Starting pitcher
Leland Wilson (1-2) took the loss allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.
NDSU and LSU play again Wednesday, March 13.
