FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State soccer team picked up a dominating 3-0 win over Alabama State Thursday night in the Bison home opener at Dacotah Field.
Olivia Watson moved up the career charts with a first half goal, while freshman Morgan Russmann scored her first two collegiate goals in the second half to secure the victory for the Bison. Hannah Stipp made one save for her first collegiate win and cleansheet.
Watson broke the tie in the 20th minute as she tapped in a rebound from Gabrielle Garrett's header on a Devon Kavanagh corner kick. With the goal, Watson moved into a tie for ninth on NDSU's goal scoring list in the division one era with Brooklyn Dyce (14).
In the second half, Russmann connected on a Kavanagh cross from the right wing, settling the ball and firing it into the lower left corner for her first collegiate goal in the 49th minute.
The Kavanagh-Russmann connection wasn't finished, as less than four minutes later, the duo would team up again for the games final goal on another cross in from the right wing with a one-timer finish from the freshman.
The Bison will now set their sights on Hawaii, as the Bison head to the islands for three games, beginning with a matchup against Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday, August 27. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m. in Hawaii and midnight central time.
