FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State soccer controlled much of the possession and outshot North Dakota, but couldn't find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss Sunday afternoon at Dacotah Field.
The Bison (5-10-0, 1-4-0 Summit) held a 12-8 advantage in total shots and a 7-4 edge in shots on goal while maintaining 58 percent possession. North Dakota (7-5-3, 1-2-2) broke through in the 62nd minute when Yui Fujii scored on a free kick from just outside the penalty area for the lone goal of the match.
Hannah Arnold nearly gave the Bison a lead in the third minute, but UND was able to clear the ball off the line with a defender. Tyreese Zacher, Devon Kavanagh and Isabel Garcia also tested the goal early in the first half, forcing saves from North Dakota's Grace Miller. Mikayla Carkhuff added two on frame in the second half, including one picked out of the top corner. Amya Garrett had the final NDSU shot on target.
Senior goalkeeper Payton Mulberry recorded three saves for NDSU, which earned four corner kicks to UND's two and limited the Fighting Hawks to two chances in the first half.
The Bison return to action Thursday, October 17, hosting Kansas City in the final home game of the season at Dacotah Field. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
