FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's golf program and head coach
Dr. Ekren Miller have announced the addition of two signings on the opening day of the national signing period.
Elias Ekern | Northfield, Minnesota | Northfield HS
Ekern will join the Bison after wrapping up his career this spring at Northfield High School under the direction of head coach Adam Danielson. Ekern is coming off of an All-State junior season, as well as back-to-back MVP seasons for Northfield, winning four events while posting a 72.47 scoring average and qualifying for the state championships after a runner-up finish at the sectionals. Ekern is a three-time all-conference golfer with a tournament best of 67 and career best of 64. He has also won the Minnesota Jr. PGA Matchplay Championship and finished third at the Minnesota Jr. PGA Championship. He also won the Herron Tour event at the Jewel, and finished tied for second at the Minnesota Players Tour events at Detroit Lakes Country Club and at Grandview. Ekern also lettered in Hockey. He plans to major in Business at NDSU.
Henry Johnson | Chaska, Minnesota | Southwest Christian HS
Johnson will come to Fargo after wrapping up his high school career at Southwest Christian, where he won a conference title with a 68 last season under the direction of Ernie Rose. Johnson is coming off of an All-State selection in his junior season, as well as three-straight all-conference seasons and a Rookie of the Year honor as a freshman in 2023. Over the last two seasons, Johnson has posted 10 rounds in the 60s, including a tournament best of 64 on his way to a second-place finish at the Bob Gordon Classic and a pair of 66s. Johnson won the Minnesota Players Tour event at Bunker Hills with a 69 and 67. He then added a fourth at the Player Tour event at Braemar. He also had runner-up finishes at the Minnesota State Amateur Qualifier at Mississippi National and the Albert Lea Invite. Johnson also reached the final four of the Sota Series Match Play Championship, against the top-64 junior golfers in the state. Johnson is the younger brother of Jack Johnson, who was a three-time All-Summit League golfer for the Bison from 2020-24. Johnson intends to major in Business at NDSU.
