NDSU Women’s Basketball Tops Eastern Illinois, 83-55

CHARLESTON, Ill. – The North Dakota State women's basketball team picked up its sixth straight win after topping Eastern Illinois, 83-55, on Thursday night at Groniger Arena.
With the win, the Bison improve to 8-2 on the season, including a 3-0 record on the road. It marks the first time since the 2004-05 season that NDSU has won each of its first three road games. Eastern Illinois drops to 1-9 overall with the loss.
After opening up an 11-point lead at the half, 38-27, the Bison used a key 16-0 run spanning over four minutes in the third quarter to stretch their advantage to 54-31 with a layup from Karrington Asp at the 4:15 mark. The Bison, who never trailed in the contest, went on to earn the 83-55 road win.
Avery Koenen led the way with a game-high 22 points and career-best 16 rebounds for her fourth straight double-double. The Montevideo, Minn., native also added four steals, three assists and one block to her stat line. Asp added 16 points off the bench with three rebounds, while Marisa Frost netted 14 points with four steals, two rebounds and two assists.
As a team, the Bison shot 52.8 percent (28-53) from the field and 88.0 percent (22-25) from the free throw line. NDSU drained a season-best 22 free throws on 25 attempts.
NDSU will be back in action at Pepperdine in the Malibu Classic on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. CT
