NDSU Volleyball Sweeps Bowling Green in Season Opener

FARGO, N.D. – Lauren Jansen posted a match-high 12 kills as the North Dakota State volleyball team swept Bowling Green in the season opener, 3-0, on Friday night at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
Jansen tallied 12 kills on 25 attempts for a .320 hitting percentage to go along with a match-best three service aces, two digs and two blocks. Maddy Dombeck narrowly missed a double-double with a team-best 19 assists and eight digs. Rya Borer, who was making her Bison debut, added a match-best 10 digs with two service aces.
After Bowling Green (0-1) doubled up NDSU (1-0) early in the first set, 8-4, the Bison pulled their way back with five straight points to steal the lead, 9-8, with an attack error. NDSU slowly pushed its lead to 19-15 with a kill from Jansen. The Bison went on to win the frame, 25-18
Both teams traded points in the second frame until the NDSU assembled a momentum-shifting 5-1 run capped off by kill from Zoe John to make the score 19-14. The Bison then extended their edge to 22-17 with another kill from Jansen. Bowling Green responded with a late 3-0 run, but NDSU held on for the 25-20 win.
The two teams battled through a match-high 13 ties and eight lead changes in the third frame until the Falcons grabbed an 18-17 advantage with a kill from Edyta Waclawczyk. The Bison answered with a clutch 5-1 run of their own to build a 22-19 lead following an attack error. Bowling Green then made one final surge with three straight points to lock the contest, 24-24, with a service ace. However, the Bison used a kill from Baily Randall and sealed the frame with a Bowling Green attack error to win the set, 26-24, and the match, 3-0.
NDSU will be back in action hosting Temple tomorrow. First serve is set for 11 a.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
