PULLMAN, Wash. — North Dakota State women's soccer dropped a 2-0 road decision to Washington State on Thursday evening at Lower Soccer Field.

The Bison (4-6-0) held the Cougars (2-2-3) scoreless from open play for much of the night, but Washington State capitalized on a penalty kick goal from Maggie Mace in the 29th minute to take the lead. NDSU battled and nearly found an equalizer on multiple occasion in the first and second half until the 83rd minute, when the Cougars added an insurance tally on a counter attack goal from Abigail Siddall.

Hannah Stipp kept the Bison in the match with a career-high seven-save performance, turning away several quality chances from Washington State.

Offensively, Forward Morgan Russmann finished with three shots, including one late in the first half that forced a team save after beating the Cougars keeper to control a free kick. Hannah Arnold added two second-half attempts that narrowly missed the target. The first sailed just wide of the post and the second hit the crossbar.

The Bison finished with seven shots and two corners, while the Cougars had 23 shots and six corners. Washington State was also whistled for 17 fouls and had three yellow cards in the contest.

North Dakota State switches gears to Summit League play and opens up the league season on Thursday, September 25, against Omaha. The Bison and Mavericks are set for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Dacotah Field.
