NDSU Wrestling Dominates Northern Colorado in Big 12 Dual

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State scored six bonus-point victories to lead the way to a 30-11 win over Northern Colorado in Big 12 action Friday night at the Scheels Center inside the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.

Ezekiel Witt opened up the dual with a pin, Zytavius Williams had a tech fall in his Bison dual debut, and the four upper weights for the Bison recorded four-straight major decisions.

Witt was on his way to a tech fall in the opening match at 125 pounds, leading 14-2, but the No. 17 ranked wrestler picked up six team points with a takedown of Kade Orr to his back and was able to secure his third fall in the last five duals and his sixth fall overall this season.

Following #32 Tristan Daugherty's 5-2 loss to #13 Dominick Serrano at 133 pounds, Williams made his dual debut for the Bison at 141 pounds and started off with three takedowns in the first period over Tobey Ravida. Williams would add two more takedowns in the third, with the final triggering a tech fall for the true freshman.

Gavin Drexler would pick up the next win for the Bison at 157 pounds, coming from behind to defeat Daishun Powe. Trailing 3-1, Drexler secured a rideout in the second period and then added an escape before a takedown on the edge of the mat to secure a 6-4 victory, his fourth dual win in the last five matches.

After Northern Colorado picked up a win at 165 pounds, the Bison would stampede through the upper weights, recording four-straight major decisions, beginning with Max Magayna at 174 pounds over Murphy Menke. Trailing 4-0 in the second period, Magayna secured a takedown and then earned a pair of four-point near falls to take a commanding lead on his way to a 13-4 victory.

At 184 pounds, #29 Aidan Brenot jumped out to an early lead with three takedowns in the first. He would add another in the third to secure a 13-5 victory over Mahonri Rushton for his second-straight bonus point decision in Big 12 duals.

Continuing his win streak at 197 pounds, #33 Devin Wasley secured his third bonus-point decision in four matches and won his sixth-straight dual with an 11-1 win over Tyler Perry. Wasley had a takedown in each period to help him improve to 4-0 in Big 12 duals this season.

Shilo Jones closed out the dual for the Bison with his fourth-straight dual win at heavyweight and improved to 2-2 in Big 12 duals, defeating Enzo Cappabianca 13-1. Jones had a takedown and four near fall points in the first, nearly securing the pin before time expired in the period. Jones added a takedown in the third and forced two penalty points for stalling along with a riding-time point to cap the scoring.

With the win, the Bison improve to 5-7 on the season and 2-2 in Big 12 action heading into NDSU's home finale on Sunday against Air Force. The Bison host the Falcons at 1 p.m. with senior day festivities before the dual at the Scheels Center.
