FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State soccer came up short against St. Thomas, falling 2-1 Thursday evening at Dacotah Field in Summit League play.
St. Thomas opened the scoring in the 20th minute, as Izzy McEwan headed in a cross from Kalli Knowles to give the Tommies an early 1-0 advantage.
The Bison responded 10 minutes later. Gabrielle Garrett connected with Hannah Arnold, who volleyed in a cross in the 30th minute to even the score at 1-1.
The tie was short-lived, however, as St. Thomas regained the lead in the 32nd minute on an unassisted goal from Knowles on a failed clearance. The Tommies carried the 2-1 advantage into halftime, and neither team found the net in the second half.
North Dakota State continued to push for an equalizer after the break, creating several opportunities. Goalkeeper Payton Mulberry made three saves in the second half to keep the Bison within striking distance.
The two teams finished even in total shots at 11 apiece, while the Bison held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
North Dakota State will return to action on Sunday, October 11, when the Bison wrap up their home stand against Omaha. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Dacotah Field.
