NDSU Women’s Basketball Eases Past North Dakota, 87-51

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's basketball team downed North Dakota, 87-51, on Sunday afternoon at Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in front of 2,019 fans.
With the win, the Bison (23-2, 12-0 Summit) extend their win streak to 21 straight games, which is the second-longest active streak in the nation behind UConn (43). It also marked the 23rd win of the season for NDSU, which is the most in the Division I era and most since 2004-05. North Dakota drops to 7-20 (3-10 Summit) with the loss.
Avery Koenen led the way tying a season-high 29 points with a game-high 13 rebounds and a career-high four blocks. It marked her 17th double-double of the season. Jocelyn Schiller tallied 14 points with two assists and two rebounds, while Abby Krzewinski also reached double digits in scoring with 11 points on 3-of-3 shooting from three.
As a team, the Bison shot 48.4 percent (30-62) from the field and 90.0 percent (18-20) from the free throw line. NDSU also drained nine triples on 14 attempts, including seven in the second half.
After opening up a 39-26 lead at the half, NDSU started the third quarter putting together 15 straight points capped off by a three-pointer from Koenen to make the score 54-26 at the 5:40 mark. The Bison, who never trailed in the contest, held a double figure lead the rest of the way to pick up the 87-51 road win.
NDSU will be back in action hosting St. Thomas on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
