GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The North Dakota State men's golf team finished the final round of the Loyola Intercollegiate to close their opening tournament of the spring at Palm Valley Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Gabe Benson (75-74-69—218) was the top Bison for the day, matching his season-low round of 69 (-3). The senior was even through 11 holes and fired five birdies in the final round to finish in a career-best 54-hole score of 218 (+2). Benson climbed 20 spots up the leaderboard to land in a tie for 63
rd.
Andrew Ballou (72-78-71—221) carded his first round below par on the final day. Ballou recorded 13 holes at par and a trio of birdies on the 5
th, 12
th, and 13
th holes to finish -1 for the round, and +5 overall in a tie for 78
th.
Carter White (75-72-72—219) and
Jake Skarperud (71-71-74—216) were the final scorers for NDSU on day three. White picked up his second even round of the event, shooting four birdies and 10 holes at an even par. Skarperud added three more birdies to his tally to finish +2 on the day and at an even-par overall in a tie for 50
th. White finished +3 overall in a tie for 68
th.
Rylin Petry (70-73-74—217) and
Max Wilson (78-73-72—223) wrap up the competing Bison for the event. Petry had one birdie on hole 2 and a team-high 15 holes at par to finish +2 in the last round of play and landed in a tie for 57
th at +1 overall. Wilson fired an eagle on the 10
th hole and a trio of birdies to record his best round of the event of an even 72, finishing in a tie for 89
th at +7.
As a team, the Bison (288-290-286—864) tallied their best round of the event of -2 on the final day to finish in 11
th of 20 teams at an even-par for the tournament.
NDSU men's golf will have a full week off before heading west to the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate. Hosted by Stetson, the tournament will be hosted at the LPGA International - Hills Course at Daytona Beach, Florida on March 2-3.
