FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State University Athletics (NDSU) and Gate City Bank announced an expansion of their longtime partnership, naming Gate City Bank the program's first all-sport jersey patch partner. Beginning with the 2026-27 athletic season, the bank's logo will appear on Bison uniforms across the university's 16 varsity teams.
"Gate City Bank continues to be a loyal supporter of both NDSU and Bison Athletics. I am very proud of our partnership that has spanned decades," Matt Larsen, Director of Athletics at North Dakota State University. "Gate City Bank has helped provide resources and opportunity for our student-athletes to achieve success and compete at the highest level. This jersey patch sponsorship is just another sign of their investment in excellence and their strong belief in Bison Athletics. Our student-athletes will wear their logo proudly."
Gate City Bank has played an integral role in the NDSU Athletics experience for years, including the creation of the Gate City Bank Fueling Station at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex, its longstanding sponsorship of Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome, home of Bison Football, and its capital investment in multiple facilities including the Nodak Insurance Company Football Performance Complex.
"Gate City Bank and North Dakota State University have shared a commitment to helping people and communities succeed," said Kevin Hanson, Gate City Bank President & CEO. "As NDSU enters this exciting new era, we're proud to continue supporting its student-athletes, investing in the next generation of leaders and strengthening the connections that bring our communities together. We look forward to continuing to build on a partnership that contributes to a strong future for North Dakota."
The addition of jersey patch branding across all sports provides a prominent, year-round platform for the partnership at a time of increased national exposure for Bison football. NDSU is slated for 10 nationally televised games this season and will compete in its first year in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and Mountain West Conference.
"Gate City Bank's support of NDSU Athletics extends far beyond a jersey patch. Over the course of their partnership, they've shown up for the university, its athletic programs, Bison student-athletes and the Fargo community through an unwavering commitment to creating the next generation of champions," said Andrew Wheeler, Executive Vice President of Sports Properties at Learfield. "This expansion puts that support on full display, giving Gate City Bank a presence across every Bison team and reinforcing a partnership that reflects what long-term investment in college athletics can look like."
The partnership was created in collaboration with Bison Sports Properties, the locally based Learfield team that serves as the exclusive multimedia rights holder for NDSU Athletics. Bison Sports Properties handles all sponsorships, in-venue signage, jersey patches and advertising rights on behalf of the Bison.
NDSU has a storied history of athletic success including 30 team national championships since 1965 in football, women's basketball, wrestling, softball, men's cross country and women's indoor track and field.
At the Division I level, the Bison have won 10 football national championships, qualified for six NCAA men's basketball tournaments, made 10 softball regionals and one super regional, three women's volleyball tournaments, three baseball regionals, as well as NCAA tournaments in women's soccer, and men's and women's golf while producing several All-Americans and Olympians in track and field, cross country and wrestling.
Committed to its communities, Gate City Bank has donated $49.7 million in philanthropic giving and nearly 370,000 volunteer hours since 2003, including $4.5 million and more than 31,000 volunteer hours in 2025 alone. The bank also invests in community success through long-term financial commitments to organizations such as YWCA Cass Clay and North Dakota State University, including Aldevron Tower, and by donating more than $500,000 to local schools and universities through the My School Spirit debit card program.
Gate City Bank has received a five-star rating from BauerFinancial every year since 1996 and has been named one of Prairie Business magazine's "50 Best Places to Work" 12 years in a row. Member FDIC. Equal Housing Lender.
