NDSU Wrestling’s Mattingly Elevated to Associate Head Coach

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State wrestling and head coach Obenson Blanc have announced the promotion of Scott Mattingly to Associate Head Coach.
"Scott has been a tremendous asset and has shown that he is very capable of handling all aspects of running a program," said Blanc. "Scott has been committed towards the growth and development of Bison Wrestling. I am excited to continue building with him and the rest of our staff."
Mattingly enters his fourth season with the Bison in 2026-27 after joining NDSU in August of 2023. He was promoted to Head Assistant Coach in August of 2024. Mattingly has 12 seasons coaching at the Division I level and has coached 30 NCAA DI qualifiers.
In his first three seasons in Fargo, Mattingly has aided in the development of All-American Gavin Drexler in 2025, as well as blood round appearances for Gaven Sax in 2024 and Aidan Brenot in 2025. Overall, the Bison have had 10 national qualifiers in his first three years with the Bison program.
Prior to NDSU, Mattingly had coaching stints at Gardner-Webb University and Eastern Michigan. Mattingly has helped guide 16 Academic All-Americans in his coaching career and had five teams claim top 15 NWCA Academic Team finishes.
A former standout himself on the mat, Mattingly was a four-time Mid-American Conference Tournament placer during his career as a student-athlete at Central Michigan.
