NDSU Volleyball Bounces Back with 3-0 Win over Portland

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The North Dakota State volleyball team bounced back with a 3-0 win over Portland at the Bobcat Invitational at Shroyer Gym on Friday afternoon.
For the second straight match, Courtney Peters led the Bison (5-2) with a match-high 14 kills to go along with seven digs. Zoe John also tied a season-best 13 kills with a .409 hitting percentage. Sarah Pfiffner logged her third consecutive double-double with a match-best 29 assists and team-high 10 digs.
The Bison took advantage of some early attack errors to build a 9-2 lead in the opening frame. NDSU then slowly extended its lead to 19-13 with a kill from Pfiffner. The Bison, who never trailed in the frame, closed out the first set, 25-21.
NDSU used a 4-0 run in the second frame to open up a 13-7 edge with a kill from John. The Bison then pushed their advantage to 18-11 with another kill from John. The Bison went on to hold off Portland (3-2) the rest of the way, 25-22.
The Pilots responded in the third set that featured a match-high seven tie scores and three lead changes. After the two teams found themselves locked, 10-10, the Bison constructed a key 5-0 run that included two kills from Emma Tallman to steal a 15-10 lead. NDSU then put the contest away closing the set on a 9-2 run to win the frame, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.
NDSU will be back in action against Montana in the Zags Volleyball Classic in Spokane, Washington on Thursday. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m. CT
