NDSU Volleyball Sweeps Gonzaga, 3-0

SPOKANE, Wash. – The North Dakota State volleyball team blanked Gonzaga, 3-0, at the Zags Volleyball Classic at the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre on Friday night.
With the win, the Bison improve to 7-2 overall and notched their fourth sweep of the season, while Gonzaga falls to 4-7 overall.
Zoe John paced NDSU with a match-high 11 kills and Lauren Jansen also reached double digits with 10 kills of her own. Sarah Pfiffner handed out a match-best 31 assists with eight digs and Rya Borer totaled a match-high 18 digs.
Both teams traded points throughout the first frame until the Bison put together a momentum-shifting 7-1 run to build a 22-18 edge with a block from Kendall Worwa and Emma Tallman. The Bulldogs answered to pull back within two, 23-21, following a kill from Veronica Sorensen. However, the Bison closed the set taking advantage of two attack errors to win, 25-21.
NDSU carried the energy into the second frame running out to a 7-2 lead with a kill from Arianna Blohm. The Bison then slowly stretched their lead to seven, 21-14, following another kill from Blohm. NDSU went on to win the set, 25-17.
The Bulldogs responded in the third set that featured a match-high 13 ties and six lead changes. Gonzaga assembled a late 5-1 run to steal a 22-19 advantage with a kill from Lucy Slavik. The Bison answered to close the set with six straight points, including two kills and two blocks from Blohm to win the frame, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
NDSU will wrap up non-conference play against Seattle tomorrow. First serve is set for 12:30 p.m. CT
