NDSU Men’s Golf Climbs to Tenth on Final Day of Badger Invitational

MADISON, Wis. – All five Bison golfers climbed the leaderboard on the final day, as the North Dakota State men's golf team wrapped up the Badger Invitational in a tie for 10th place, improving four spots on Tuesday afternoon at University Ridge Golf Course.
The Bison (290-297-283–870) compiled a score of five-under in the final round, the third best mark by any team in the tournament. They finished 29 strokes back of first-place Southern Miss (281-283-277–841). South Dakota State (287-279-281–847) finished in second, while Western Kentucky (280-286-289–855) and Wisconsin (282-287-286–855) tied for third.
Peyton Albers (68-75-70–213) bounced back with a two-under 70 in the final round, finishing the tournament in a tie for 10th at -3 overall. With just three collegiate tournaments under his belt, it is the second time Albers has posted a top 10 finish, also placing 10th at the ANF Fall Classic three weeks ago. Albers recorded a three-under front nine in the final round, thanks to an eagle on hole 2 and a birdie on hole 5.
Henry Johnson (74-77-68–219) posted his lowest round of the season on day three, jumping 36 spots on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 38th at +3 overall. Johnson carded five birdies on the day, including three on the front nine en route to a three-under 33. He birdied four of the five par 5s in round three, playing those five holes at three-under for the tournament.
Joey Mackinac (71-77-72–220) rose 11 spots on the final day with an even-par 72, finishing in a tie for 46th at +4 overall in his first tournament of the season. Mackinac played both nines at even par in the final round, with four birdies on the day. He collected eight back-nine birdies throughout the tournament, playing the back-nine at even par all three days. His 54-hole score of 220 ties his career-low that was set last season, while his 71 in the first round also tied his career-low 18-hole score.
Andrew Ballou (77-72-73–222) finished the tournament in a tie for 57th at +6 overall. Ballou grabbed 13 pars on the day, including eight on the front nine. He birdied hole 16 for the second straight day, improving to four-under on the back-nine par 5s for the tournament.
Carter White (77-73-73–223) rounded out the group with a finish at +7, ending in a tie for 65th. He birdied three holes on the back nine in the third round, firing a two-under 34. He posted back-to-back rounds of 73 to close the tournament, with a total of 11 birdies throughout the three days.
The Bison will take a week off before returning to action at the Metropolis Intercollegiate in White Plains, New York. The tournament will be hosted by Columbia at the Metropolis Country Club on October 12-13.
