Border States congratulates Shelby Gunnells, one of this week's Border States Electric Student-Athletes of the Week.

Gunnells, a senior from Solon, Iowa, has a 4.0 GPA in geology. She earned her first career Summit League Athlete of the Week honor with a career-best mark of 55 feet, 7 3/4 inches (16.96m) for the shot put title at the Bison Team Cup. Gunnells currently ranks sixth in the nation and 22nd in the world in the shot put. She also placed second in the weight throw with a personal-best 63 feet, 3 1/2 inches (19.29m) to help NDSU beat Northern Iowa and Utah State and win the Bison Team Cup for the second straight year.
