Bison Let Lead Slip at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich.--Darryl Garrett's jumper with 3:54 to play gave Eastern Michigan its first lead of the game as the Eagles defeated North Dakota State 60-58 in men's college basketball Saturday, Dec. 18, at Bowen Field House.

 

North Dakota State, which slipped to 4-5 overall, led by as many as 10 points in the first half and by nine on three occasions in the second half, but the Bison did not score after David Erbes' jumper put NDSU up 58-55 with 5:11 remaining.

 

Eastern Michigan, which won its sixth game in seven outings, caused two NDSU turnovers while the Bison missed six shots and four free throws in the last five minutes of play.

 

Myron Green scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in the first half for North Dakota State as the Bison took a 32-29 halftime lead.  He finished with 13 points and eight boards.

 

Bison guard Adam Dobmeier scored a game-high 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 3 of 7 three-pointers.

 

Andy Kelchen scored 14 points on 7-of-15 shooting with seven rebounds and four assists, and Erbes finished with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

 

North Dakota State outrebounded the taller Eagles, 34-30, but the Bison were 4-for-9 at the foul line while Eastern Michigan hit 13 of 17 foul shots.

 

The Eagles got 13 points apiece from guard Michael Ross and forward John Bowler.  EMU's Markus Austin scored 10 and Boo Jackson chipped in eight points and four blocks.

 

North Dakota State is scheduled to play at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., on Monday night at 6 p.m. CT.
