
North Dakota State Women Turn Back Feisty Valley City State 71-46

Lacey Johnson scored 19 points as all eleven North Dakota State University players scored as the Bison turned back determined Valley City State 71-46 in a non-conference women's basketball game played Saturday, Jan. 15, before a crowd of 1,053 at the Bison Sports Arena.
North Dakota State improves to 16-0 this season, while Dakota Athletic Conference-10 member Valley City State drops to 8-10. The Bison are scheduled to host Dakota Wesleyan University (4-16) at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18.
Johnson, a 6-foot senior from Wessington Springs, S.D., hit 7-of-11 from the field and all five free throw attempts to lead NDSU, which only had two players in double-figures. Six-four junior center Brandee Gibbs (Hanover, Minn.) scored 10 of her 14 points in the second half as the Bison gradually pulled away.
The Vikings never led, but kept things close behind the alert play of players like Nicolle James and Lacey Turcotte. Valley City State drew to within three points on several occasions the last coming at 20-17 with 8:23 left on a Loni Hall jumper. James recorded a "double-double" with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Turcotte finished with 10 points.
North Dakota State connected on 50 percent (28-56) from the field including 37.5 percent ( from the 3-point stripe compared to 30.6 percent (15-49) for Valley City State. The Bison hit 90 percent (9-10) from the foul line and the Vikings nailed 82.4 percent (14-17). NDSU held a slim 34-32 advantage on the boards.
