Iwanicki Scores First Career Goal as NDSU Falls to UC Irvine

Box Score

IRVINE, Calif.--The North Dakota State women's soccer team dropped their second consecutive game for the first time this season with a 2-1 loss at UC Irvine on Sunday, Oct. 2.

The Bison fell to 7-3 on the year while the Anteaters improved to 3-8-1.

UC Irvine got on the board first with a score by Joy Grey in the 10th minute of play. Less than three minutes later, Becky Iwanicki countered for NDSU with a strike after alternating passes to and from Jessica Rodgers.

The Anteaters scored their second goal on a header by Kim Conlan off of a corner kick from Britney Webster in the 31st minute.

The Bison outshot the Anteaters 8-4 in the game and held the advantage in corner kicks 7-4, but missed key opportunities in the second period.

"We made two mistakes and they took advantage of them," NDSU head coach Pete Cuadrado said. "We have been getting those breaks all year long, but if we keep playing the way we have been playing, we will be in every game."

Iwanicki's goal was her first of her career as a Bison. She is the 14th different player to score a goal this season for NDSU.

The Bison return to action on Oct. 6 at Weber State followed by a match at Southern Utah on Oct. 8.

"I'm very proud of the team and how we played soccer today," Cuadrado said. "I'm not happy with the result, but this was definately one of our better games of the year."
