Rodgers Scores Goal in Second Overtime as Bison Defeat Jackrabbits

Box Score

FARGO, N.D.?Jessica Rodgers celebrated senior day at the Ellig Sports Complex in fitting fashion by scoring the game-winning goal in double overtime to lift North Dakota State over South Dakota State in women's soccer on Sunday, Oct. 23.

After 100 minutes of scoreless play, it took only 14 seconds in the second overtime for Rodgers to score the golden goal. From inside the box, Rodgers took a pass from Stacey Howell before firing a shot into the left side of the net in the 101st minute of play.

“It was a great way for Jessica and our six seniors to go out,” NDSU head coach Pete Cuadrado said.

With the victory, the Bison extended their winning streak to four games while improving their overall record to 11-4-1. South Dakota State dropped to 4-11-1 with the loss.

For NDSU, it was their tenth shutout of the season while goalkeeper Karli Kopietz captured her eighth shutout, tying Margaret Palo's team mark set in 1996.

Increasing her season sum to 97 saves, Kopietz stopped six Jackrabbit shots. With one game remaining, Kopietz is one save away from Kelly Tierney's school-record mark of 98 saves set during the 2002 campaign.

Compiling a record of 27-18-4 as NDSU head coach, Pete Cuadrado moved into a tie with Gordon Henderson for second on the school's win list.

After playing the 2004 season entirely on the road, NDSU finished a flawless 2005 home season with a 7-0 record with six shutouts.

The Bison return to action on Sunday, Oct. 30, when they travel to Western Illinois for a 1 p.m. match. Last year, the two teams battled to a 3-3 tie in Macomb, Ill., in the only previous meeting between the two schools.
