Green Hot in Second Half Again as North Dakota State Defeats Northern State

Box Score

FARGO, N.D.--Myron Green had another big second-half scoring effort and North Dakota State shot 67 percent after the break to pull away from Northern State for an 88-60 men's basketball win Tuesday, Feb. 1, before a crowd of 1,102 at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

The teams were tied at 35 at halftime before Green, who scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half to help the Bison (9-11) past Minnesota-Crookston last Wednesday, clicked for 19 of his career-high 28 points in the second half against Northern State (14-5).  He was 10-for-19 from the floor.

NDSU stayed with the Wolves in the first half thanks to a 24-16 rebounding advantage and the 10 first-half points of guard Adam Dobmeier, who tied career highs with five 3-pointers and 19 total points, and set a new career best with seven rebounds.

Northern State center Aaron Busack went into double figures with four layups in the first 2:20 of the second half as the Wolves took a three-point lead, but a Dobmeier trey tied the game at 46 with 14:39 left, and a Green 3-pointer on the next possession after a Northern State turnover put the Herd up for good as NDSU won going away.

The Bison finished with a 44-28 rebounding advantage, including a career-high four rebounds from Dotun Obadina, the defensive stopper who collected all four boards on the offensive end.  David Erbes led all players with nine boards off the Bison bench.

Andy Kelchen scored 15 points for North Dakota State, starting guard Brandon Smith tied a career high with six assists, and reserve guard Phil Hahn made seven assists off the bench.

Busack finished with 20 points for the Wolves, who lost for only second time in 11 games.  Matt Hammer and Dustin Hjelmeland each scored 13.

NDSU shot an even 50 percent in the game, scored a season-best 88 points, and committed a season-low nine turnovers en route to its second win in three games over the Wolves this season.  North Dakota State leads the all-time series 13-7.

The victory was North Dakota State's fourth straight and the fifth in seven games.  The Bison improved to 7-1 at home this season, but it was NDSU's first appearance in the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse since an exhibition win over Howard Pulley Basketball during the 2003-04 preseason.

North Dakota State was forced out of the Bison Sports Arena because of preparations being made for President Bush's scheduled visit to Fargo.
