ORLANDO, Fla.--Freshman pitcher Allison Bakke struck out 12 batters in her first collegiate start, but Boston University defeated North Dakota State 1-0 at the UCF Softball Tournament on Friday, Feb. 18. In the second game, host UCF defeated the Bison 9-1.

"We just didn't get the hit when we needed it and Boston University did," said NDSU softball coach Darren Mueller as the Bison outhit the Terriers (1-1) 5-3, but left seven runners on base compared to three for BU.

"We weren't nervous at all. We were ready to play."

Boston University scored the game's only run in the top of the fourth inning as senior DeKenya Williams belted a two-out double. Brittany Detwiler picked up the win for the Terriers, walking one and striking out eight.

Sophomore Grete Peterson led North Dakota State with a pair of hits. Bakke (0-1) faced only 25 batters in the contest and issued only one walk.

Crystle Krafft went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a triple to spark the host Golden Knights (8-5) 12-hit attack in the second game. Krafft drove in four runs and scored twice for UCF, while Amber Lamb went 2-for-2 and scored three runs.

Heather Hyatt led the Bison against UCF with a pair of singles and scored the lone NDSU run, while Grete Peterson added a base hit. Hyatt and Peterson each had three hits over the first two games.

Jennifer Tomasetti tossed a three-hitter for UCF, striking out two and issuing no walks in picking up her first win of the season. Freshman Bekki Rasmussen (0-1) picked up the loss for NDSU, working the first 2.1 innings, allowing eight hits and six runs. Amber Garrett finished the final 3.2 innings in relief. She allowed four hits and three runs, walking two and striking out three.

North Dakota State (0-2) is scheduled to play host Longwood University, Va. (1-3) at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19.
