
Strong First Half Carries Bison Past Wisconsin-Green Bay, 85-73

FARGO, N.D.--Wisconsin native Mike Nelson scored a career-high 29 points to lead North Dakota State to an 85-73 victory over Wisconsin-Green Bay in college men's basketball Saturday, Nov. 25.
It was the 10th straight home win for North Dakota State (3-2), which won 12 of 13 games at the Bison Sports Arena last year.
Nelson scored 21 points in the first half on 9-of-12 shooting from the field. The 6-foot-4 sophomore from Madison was 3 of 5 from 3-point range.
Ryan Evanochko led the Phoenix (1-4) with 20 points, 18 in the second half.
NDSU led by as many as 25 points and hung on to win without point guard Ben Woodside, who sprained his ankle late in the first half and played only nine minutes.
The Bison led 41-24 at halftime. The closest margin in the second half was nine points, when Evanochko's layup pulled the Phoenix within 73-64 with 2:27 showing.
NDSU's biggest lead was 31-6 after a 3-pointer by Nelson with 7:41 remaining in the first half.
Andre Smith had 19 points and 11 rebounds for North Dakota State and teammate Brett Winkelman scored 19 points. Winkelman was 11-for-11 at the foul line and added eight rebounds and a career-high seven assists.
Lucas Moormann got his second career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and his five blocked shots were a career-high.
The Bison had a 44-28 rebounding advantage.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play in the Pepsi Blue and Gold Classic next weekend at Marquette. NDSU plays Princeton in the opening round at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1.
The Bison will face either Marquette or Northwestern State on Saturday, Dec. 2.
