North Dakota State (4-0) is scheduled to play Georgia Southern (2-2) at noon (CST) Saturday, Oct. 7, in Statesboro, Ga. It's the first 4-0 start for NDSU since the 2001 season.
After a scoreless first quarter, NDSU's Shawn Bibeau booted a 30-yard field goal two minutes into the second. It capped a 10-play, 52-yard drive.
The Bison extended the lead to 10-0 on a Kyle Steffes 2-yard run. The 11-play, 78-yard drive was helped by a roughing-the-passer call against Stephen F. Austin that took away a Lumberjack interception.
Steffes carried 24 times for 100 yards, reaching the century mark for the third time this season and the 15th game of his career.
SFA answered back with a 12-play, 59-yard drive to cut into the deficit. The NDSU defense held after several penalties of its own and forced SFA to settle for a 27-yard field goal by Cory Long with 1:06 before halftime.
For the second week in a row, NDSU executed the two-minute offense to score a touchdown. The Bison needed only 52 seconds and four plays to cover 76 yards. Steve Walker connected with tight end Jerimiah Wurzbacher for a 30-yard TD strike with 6 seconds left.
Long booted 36-yard field goals in the third and fourth quarters for all of SFA's scoring.

The Bison held a 358-271 advantage in total offense, limiting SFA to 71 yards rushing.
Walker, who completed his first seven passes, extended his consecutive-passes-attempted-without-interception streak to 114 to break the record of 99 set by Ryan Johnson during the 1999 season.

Defensively, David Earl made a career-high 10 tackles, including four solo stops. Craig Dahl, Brian Dahl and Alex Kingsley each had sacks, and Mike Maresh intercepted a pass.
